FAKE CUBAN CIGARS

Is the cigar I purchased authentic or fake? How can I distinguish? Which details should I learn so I can purchase a real Habanos product?

I will try to find simple and effective ways to answer your all these questions. I will try to explain how to reveal this difference at our blog in detail.

As all of Habanos smokers know lots of fake products are available on the world market. Variety of products are increasing day by day with new products being released. Most profitable brands like Cohiba, Montecristo and Partagas are the ones counterfeited most.

Below, you can find the brand and product list of inspected and revealed fake productions. We specified the websites selling these products in FAKE CIGAR SHOPS article in detail. Most of the products below 90% sold in 25 boxes but it’s not the only package available. 10’s and 3’s packages, 3’s tubos package, 50’s cabinet are also available but these are much costly than producing others so these websites are not selling this one’s generally. Selling in 25’s boxes are much more profitable.

You will not be able to believe your eyes when you see the current fake Cuban products list below. Unfortunately at the moment scammers are all around because there is no inspection is operated by Habanos S.A. Scammer produced fakes of almost all product range of Habanos. The hardest ones to counterfeit are tubos and 10’s boxes. There are very limited fake ones of these packages.

  1. nice article! But some images are not availbale, and all remain photos have 2 export label. Is that clue for the fake one? Honestly I cant figure out which one fake is base only on the box appearance. Anw thanks alot

    • Can the bar code number be a copy of an authentic number? I checked the number on the Havana Cigar web page and it comes up authentic, however it could just be a copy number. Fakes are getting harder to identify as they get better at it. Ty!

  2. What a lie this site is saying just about every possible brand of Cubans are fake. Your lying and have and state no real conclusive evidence. Cohiba Cuban Robusto’s. Please tell me how there fake and how you know cause just saying its fake and giving list of all cigar brands Doesnt cut it for me!!

    • What the site is saying is that most boxes of 25’s are fake, not every brand. Always beware when you see someone selling a box of 25 Cubans.

  3. Thank you for the information. I have bought cigars (R & J Belicoso) from finestcigars and I really enjoyed them. Personally it’s not about hey look at me I’m smoking a cuban, it’s about how it tastes. Though the customer service and delivery have been the shits. I took a puff off a Mexican fake knockoff once and immediately knew it was fake. Could you advise on this. How about a list of online cuban cigars that are not fake? Once again thank you for the article.

  4. I have a cigar store and have been in business for 38 years.
    I have smoked cigars from Sotherby’s auctions 1930s 1940s 1950s and manyh others 1960s 1970s 1980s 1990s 2000s 2010s
In European travels in the 1980s I smoke many Cuban cigars.

In the last decade I have received a few great cigars brought back from Europe and China that were magnificent.
However for that last few years I have customers bring in cigars for authentication almost weekly and I have not seen one real one. Several customers went to Cuba and bought fake Cuban cigars.
One customer was even in the Partagas factory and was sold a fake box.
I can usually spot the fake cigars from 30 feet away when the walk in the store. For instance one customer has a Cohiba – my first note was that I had never seen that size, the color of the leaf was wrong and finally as he got closer the band was missing all the right markings including the hologram.
I usually show them the pic online to verify and of course many got them from their friend of a friend or a pilot or a friend of the ambassador or or or.
When you buy fake cigars in Cuba they are made with stolen tobacco and usually rolled at home by some total geek. There are several leafs in the blending of the cigar and if you can only steal wrapper and binder you make it out of that. In this scenario there is rarely, I mean rarely a good smoking one.
Many were given to us to try and we usually look at each other and light up as most are Dominican and if they smoke they are not something I would smoke. I mean we have to try them if given to just see how bad they really are. The “real Cubans from Cuba with stolen tobacco, rolled at home are just terrible”.
So final – out of the 100s of customers that have brought cigars for us in the last decade I have seen almost 0 real ones except the few brought back from Europe from reputable stores. A couple great regionals came from these customers.

    • Good observations Mike. I am also a store owner and every single “Cuban” cigar that the customers brings in for me to check are garbage. I don’t know why so many people want to believe so badly that they got the real deal. 100% of the people get burned by hustlers and scammers, specially when they go to Cuba. It is impossible to get the real deal unless you go to and authorized and reputable dealer and that store must be listed in the Habanos website, otherwise just forget it and the box don’t cost 150.00 nor 100.00 dollars.

In addition the demand from Europe and Asia markets is so absurdly large that there is no way that so many people can claim that they have a box for sale, someone always have one or can get one (PLEASE..) pretty much everything that the Habanos factory makes is basically sold, England alone consume an absurd amount of this product, imagine when you include Spain, Germany, France, Japan and so on.

The story is always the same “I have a cousin or a family member that works in the factory” it looks like 7 million Cubans or the entire island works in the Habanos factory.

Scammers knows that is ridiculously easy to fool anyone buying this product unless you really know I mean really know what you are buying.

I try to educate people on this matter but I only can do so much.

” Is easier to fool someone than to convince them they have been fooled ” Mark Twain.

      • Where can I get the real ones in Cuba? The Habanos?

        • Casa de habanos are the real stores with real product. If you go to the one in Havana on 21st and 7th it is managed and run by Vegas Robiania’s son. He has some amazing stories if you happen to catch him there.

    • Hello, Mike.
I am a Chinese cigar lover. Can I buy cigars at your cigar store and send them to China?

  5. On Montecristo edmundos tubos cigar tubes…..can the paint sometimes be goofy? I have received a box and the paint on the top part of the tube is somewhat off?

  6. Joe,

I been smoking cigars in general for over 20 years.

About 18 years ago I visited La Casa Del Habanos in Aruba.

I asked a woman named Nelly how come the Cohiba Espiendios are so expensive. Her answer to me was “because they are real”‘. I made a point to visit Nelly every year. I would take a few different boxes back home to NY.

The amount of counterfeit Cuban cigars that are circulating in my network is ridiculous. I have lost friendships by telling my peers tier cigars are fakes.

I recently was turned on to “Finest Cuban Cigar”. Seems to be a legitimate web site?

    Can anyone confirm?

  7. Thanks for this site!! Joe, my experience with that vendor is that they are legit. One of the dead giveaways for a bad vendor is, if you look at the list provided above, they won’t stock the cheaper brands like quintero and Jose L. Piedra. Legit sites will almost always have them in stock. Quintero is actually one of the best selling Habanos brands worldwide (precisely as it is more affordable) so it would be strange if a legit vendor would not sell them at all.

  8. Does CigarOne sell fakes?

  9. Alston T Burge

iHavanas and Puroexpress are the real deal. No worries.

  10. hello I would like to order real cigars more luck on tabashop or ihavanas which is much cheaper? thank you

  11. Hello, ever dealt with Puro Cuban? (purocubans.com) Prices seem to good to be true! Thinking they might be fake. Thanks in advance for any help.

  12. Purchased several boxes from SCC. All were authentic tic as the day is long. Matched the codes to Habanos SA and the boxes, cigars bands all matched perfectly to the same cigars I purchased at James Fox in London
